Waverley Pen by Macniven & Cameron's Pack of 10 Nibs
Waverley Pen by Macniven & Cameron's Pack of 10 Nibs

'Waverley Pen' nibs by Macniven & Cameron's
Pack of 10 nibs

'They come as a Boon and a Blessing to men
The Pickwick, the Owl, and the WaverleyPen'

Up turned tip to the bronze coloured nib, with a fine point and medium flexibility.
Good, smooth feel on paper and excellent ink flow.

Waverley Nib Box
The box has the VR either side of the Crown, indicating it was the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901)
and the statement 'Pen Makers to Her Majesty's Goverment Office'.

Waverley Nib Box back

This nib box also has 1/3 written on the back of the box using a dip pen,
it is the cost in old money (before decimalisation) - 1 shilling and 3 pennies ( said as 'one an thrupence').

Fits correctly into the William Mitchell and the J&T multi holders only.

Joseph Gillott made the nibs for Macniven & Cameron from its inception in 1864 and for about 10 years. They were then made for them by other pen makers - Hinks Wells; Wadsworth & Norton and Brueton Fowler. They didn't manufacture their own nibs (pens) until buying a factory in 1900 on Watery Lane, Bordesley, Birmingham.
The Waverley Works, Edinburgh is printed on the box and tins, even though the nibs are stamped Birmingham.
The Birmingham factory closed in 1964.
